Key Responsibilities

As the leader of this vital department, you will:

• Strategic Leadership: Develop and implement a clear, ambitious vision for the department that aligns with the overall school improvement plan. Formulate, monitor, and evaluate an annual department development plan using data to identify areas for growth.

• Curriculum Design: Design and oversee a progressive, sequence-rich curriculum for Key Stages 3, 4, and 5 that meets exam board specifications for Business Studies, ICT, Computer Science, and AI.

• Teaching & Learning Excellence: Model outstanding classroom practice and serve as a beacon of teaching excellence. Conduct regular learning walks, book looks, and formal lesson observations, providing constructive, actionable feedback to promote continuous pedagogical improvement.

• Student Progress & Attainment: Systematically track and analyse internal and external assessment data to identify underachievement, designing and monitoring effective intervention strategies. Report regularly to senior leadership on exam predictions and external results.

• Leading & Managing Staff: Efficiently deploy, manage, and support teaching and support staff. Act as an appraiser for designated team members, facilitate subject-specific CPD, and provide mentorship for Early Career Teachers (ECTs) or trainee teachers.

• Resource & Financial Management: Manage the departmental budget effectively to ensure maximum value for money. Maintain safe, stimulating learning environments and up-to-date risk assessments.
