PE Apprentice – Level 3

The Vale Academy is on an exciting journey of development as we strive to improve educational outcomes for our pupils.  We are looking for an enthusiastic and committed PE Apprentice to join our team and play a key role in our busy school environment.  In everything we do, we aim to create a positive and safe environment to foster success and impact our students’ lives.    

The role of a PE Apprentice plays is truly instrumental; it is their ability, skillset, knowledge, and enthusiasm, which determines the success of children they teach. Therefore, we are looking for an excellent apprentice who knows how to enthuse and connect with children to ensure our pupils’ have the best possible chance to thrive.  This role is suitable for those wanting to progress to a PE Teacher, Primary School Teacher, or Teaching Assistant.

Roles and responsibilities

  • Supporting teachers and students during practical work, to include setting up demonstrations and equipment, providing guidance to pupils in the development of their tasks, including the safe operation and demonstration of equipment
  • To assist with overseeing the work of small groups of students engaged in practical tasks, as requested by the PE coordinator/lead and under the supervision of the classroom teacher
  • Day-to-day support of lessons, including preparing equipment, materials and teaching aids
  • To support with efficient organisation of the work and storage areas and to ensure the cleanliness, safety and security of these areas at all times
  • To assist with the delivery of extra curriculum/lunchtime activities
  • Supporting with classroom activities in the morning

Where appropriate for the above activities, support staff with:

  • Preparation of equipment, materials and rooms: setting out of equipment, organising team kits and transport for fixtures and curriculum activities
  • Working as a team member within your school and gaining invaluable experience

The successful candidate will have

  • GCSEs at grades A*-C/9-4 (or equivalent) in Maths and English.
  • Previous experience in coaching/working with primary school aged children.
  • Ability to work as part of a team in a busy school environment.
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Be IT literate
  • Be well organised, self-motivated, and fully committed to the role.
  • Leadership skills and ability to use initiative.
  • The enthusiasm and creativity to inspire young people to get involved in PE and School Sport.
  • Ability to be flexible and adaptable to meet the needs of the day as part of a team.

Job Specifics

Start Date: asap

Salary: National minimum apprenticeship wage, £7.55 per hour for first 12 months, then £10 - £12.21 per hour dependent on age.

Contract: Fixed-Term, Full time, 15-month contract, 30 hrs per week, Monday - Friday (timings to be confirmed), 52 weeks + inset days, Sporting Futures Apprenticeships,
