About this Role

This is a Fixed Term Contract for 1 year.

Every Day Counts. Every Child Matters.

At The Sele School, we believe that excellent attendance transforms lives. Every lesson attended is another opportunity for a young person to belong, thrive and succeed.

We are seeking a compassionate, resilient and highly organised Attendance Officer to become a key member of our Wellbeing and Integration Team. This is far more than an administrative role – it is an opportunity to make a genuine difference to the lives of young people by ensuring every student has the best possible chance to succeed through regular school attendance.

As our Attendance Officer, you will be the proactive in identifying and engaging with parents to build positive relationships that encourage and support excellent attendance. You'll analyse attendance patterns, identify concerns before they become barriers, work alongside families to overcome challenges, and collaborate closely with pastoral leaders, safeguarding staff and external agencies to improve outcomes for our students.

You will understand that sometimes your role will involve celebrating success and recognising improvement; at other times it will mean having difficult conversations, conducting home visits, or working with safeguarding professionals to ensure vulnerable young people are safe and receiving the support they need.

What You'll Be Doing

  • Championing a culture of excellent attendance and punctuality.
  • Monitoring daily attendance and identifying emerging concerns quickly.
  • Working with students, parents and carers to remove barriers to attendance.
  • Analysing attendance data to drive targeted interventions.
  • Supporting safeguarding by responding promptly to unexplained absences.
  • Working collaboratively with Heads of Year, SEND, safeguarding staff and external agencies.
  • Maintaining accurate records and ensuring compliance with statutory and local authority requirements.

We're Looking For Someone Who

  • Is passionate about improving outcomes for young people.
  • Can build positive, professional relationships with families whilst maintaining high expectations.
  • Has excellent organisational and communication skills.
  • Is confident using data to identify trends and inform action.
  • Can remain calm, compassionate and resilient when dealing with challenging situations.
  • Works independently whilst thriving as part of a supportive team.
  • Shares our commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of every child.

Why Join The Sele School?

You'll become part of a welcoming, ambitious and supportive community where staff genuinely care about one another and about the young people we serve.

We offer:

  • A dedicated and collaborative pastoral team committed to making a difference.
  • High-quality professional development tailored to your career stage.
  • Opportunities to work alongside experienced safeguarding, wellbeing and SEND professionals.
  • Cycle to Work Scheme.
  • A forward-thinking school committed to evidence-informed practice and continuous improvement.

At The Sele School, our values are simple:

Belong. Thrive. Succeed.

If you believe every child deserves the opportunity to attend, achieve and flourish, we'd love to hear from you.

Applications must be made using the school's application form (CVs cannot be accepted) and should be submitted to hr@sele.herts.sch.uk.

Please note: We reserve the right to interview and appoint before the closing date, so early applications are encouraged.

The Sele School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people. All appointments are subject to enhanced DBS clearance, satisfactory references and relevant safeguarding checks.
