About this Role

We are looking for an ambitious and dedicated English specialist to join one of the highest performing schools in the country.

The Trust wishes to appoint an enthusiastic, ambitious and highly motivated Assistant Headteacher with responsibility for English and Literacy to join a dynamic, experienced and deeply committed leadership team at Wembley High Technology College. This is an exciting opportunity for a leader who is passionate about English, reading and literacy, and keen to contribute to a high-performing school with a strong track record of success.

English and Literacy are central to the academic success of all students within the Trust, underpinning achievement across the curriculum and beyond. The successful candidate will lead on the strategic development of literacy, ensuring that all students develop the reading, writing and communication skills necessary to access a broad and ambitious curriculum. They will work closely with curriculum leaders to embed high standards of disciplinary literacy, promote a culture of reading for pleasure, and ensure that literacy is a key driver of students’ cultural capital and personal development.

From September 2026, the Trust will launch the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (IB DP), providing an exciting opportunity for the successful candidate to contribute to the development of a rich and ambitious curriculum, including the further strengthening of academic reading and writing across subjects. This represents a significant platform for whole-school leadership, curriculum design, and collaboration within a forward-thinking educational environment.

The successful candidate will be an outstanding classroom practitioner, a strategic thinker and a highly effective leader, committed to excellence and continuous improvement. They will play a key role in further developing English outcomes and driving a coherent, research-informed literacy strategy across the Trust. They will also contribute to a vibrant and intellectually ambitious wider curriculum, including enrichment opportunities such as reading programmes, debating, public speaking, writing competitions and partnerships that promote scholarship and a love of literature.

Wembley High has an established reputation for a strong focus on academic excellence. Over the last ten years we have consistently been one of the highest achieving non-denominational schools in the country. We provide a structured, disciplined working environment in which every student receives high quality teaching and achieves their full potential. In 2024, our Progress 8 score (+1.46) reflects the ambition we hold as we continue to improve the life chances of all of our pupils.
