About the Role

Armthorpe Academy is seeking to appoint an ambitious and inspiring Head of Humanities to lead a key curriculum area within our school. This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced teacher or current middle leader to shape the strategic direction of Humanities and drive high standards of teaching and learning.

You will lead, manage, and develop the Humanities department, ensuring an engaging and high-quality curriculum that enables all students to succeed and develop a strong understanding of the world around them.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide strategic leadership for the Humanities department
  • Lead curriculum design, development, and implementation
  • Monitor student progress and implement effective intervention strategies
  • Drive high standards of teaching, learning, and assessment
  • Support, develop, and line manage staff within the department
  • Ensure consistency and quality through monitoring and evaluation
  • Manage departmental resources and budgets effectively
  • Contribute to whole-school improvement and leadership

What We’re Looking For

We are looking for someone who:

  • Holds Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) and a relevant degree
  • Has strong subject knowledge within Humanities (e.g. History, Geography, or related subjects)
  • Has experience teaching across KS3 and KS4
  • Has experience of leading or supporting others (or is ready to step into leadership)
  • Can demonstrate a track record of improving outcomes
  • Is an excellent classroom practitioner with high expectations
  • Has strong organisational, leadership, and communication skills
  • Is committed to inclusion, safeguarding, and student success
