About this Role

Do you want to teach exceptionally aspirational students from all over London within a forward-thinking and high-achieving music department?

Do you want to use your musical expertise to help build young musicians' confidence, skill, and love for performance?

Do you wish to join a school that is restless in its ambition to provide transformative educational experiences?

We are seeking to recruit a highly skilled and inspirational peripatetic instrumental (piano teacher) to work within our exceptional Music department. This is a casual, part-time, term time only role, teaching students across a range of abilities – from beginners to those preparing for GCSE-level performances. As part of the role, you will report directly to the Head of Music and contribute to both one-to-one tuition and wider ensemble support.

Our Music department is not only academically strong but also vibrant in performance, with students participating in regular concerts and events throughout the academic year, held in various venues around central London. The successful candidate will play a key role in helping our students prepare for and participate in these performances.

Key Responsibilities:

·         Provide one-to-one tuition on your specialist instrument.

·         Support students in developing technical and expressive musical skills.

·         Prepare students for performances, including GCSE assessments where relevant.

·         Assist with school ensembles and concerts across the academic year.

·         Liaise with the Head of Music regarding student progress and scheduling.

The successful candidate will have:

·         Strong personal values of integrity and professionalism.

·         Expertise on at least one instrument and experience teaching across a range of skill levels.

·         A commitment to nurturing young musicians through both academic and extra-curricular music.

·         The ability to work flexibly within a busy and ambitious department.

·         A collaborative approach to supporting wider school musical events.

About Westminster City School

Westminster City School is a successful 11-18 Christian non-denominational comprehensive academy for boys with a rapidly growing mixed sixth form. Ours is a vibrant learning community situated in the heart of central London with all the opportunities and advantages of an inner city school. In March 2022, the school’s OFSTED inspection confirmed that the school remains a ‘Good’ school but we are restless in our ambition to get the highest possible ratings in time for the school’s 150th anniversary in 2027.

Applicants from a global majority heritage background are strongly encouraged to apply and we work closely with the Leaders Like Us Programme run by the Church of England to address under-representation.

“Pupils enjoy a wide range of extra-curricular clubs, including in music, drama, sport and debating… Leaders enrich this programme with links to businesses and organisations that are based locally.” – OFSTED 2022

“Pupils are happy and safe. They typically spoke enthusiastically about their school and said that the school community feels like a family.” OFSTED 2022

The school is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and expects all staff to share this commitment. The successful applicant will be subject to an enhanced DBS check.
