About this Role

About Corby Technical School and the Role

At Corby Technical School, we believe in ‘unique learners, unlimited ambition’—and we are on a mission to empower every young person to lead a healthier, more active, and more confident life. We are looking for an exceptional Head of Physical Education who shares that vision and is ready to inspire a whole community to embrace the transformative power of sport and physical wellbeing.

This is far more than a leadership role; it is an opportunity to shape a culture where movement, resilience, teamwork and ambition are lived every day. You will lead a thriving and experienced PE team, building on a strong foundation of success, to create an environment where every student—regardless of starting point—can discover their strengths, push their limits and develop a lifelong commitment to health and physical activity.

Central to our approach is a ‘head, hands, heart’ curriculum, ensuring that every student can experience success in physical education. Through the head, students develop the knowledge and understanding of sport, fitness and health; through the hands, they refine their physical skills and performance; and through the heart, they grow in confidence, teamwork, leadership and resilience. This philosophy enables all learners to find their place, recognise their value, and build habits that will support them far beyond school.

Our students already engage fully with PE, with all learners taking part at Key Stage 3 and continuing through core provision at Key Stage 4 and 5, alongside strong uptake in examination PE and sport courses at Key Stages 4 and 5. This enthusiasm provides an exceptional platform for a leader who wants to go further: to ignite participation, elevate performance, and embed a deep understanding of the value of physical wellbeing in shaping happy, successful futures.

We are seeking someone who sees PE not simply as a subject, but as a vehicle for transforming lives. You will be driven to widen participation, champion inclusion and sporting excellence, and inspire students to take ownership of their health. You will bring the energy and vision to grow an already rich extra-curricular programme into something truly exceptional—where opportunities are abundant and every student feels they belong.

At Corby Technical School, we pride ourselves on an inclusive culture rooted in restorative and asset-based approaches. We believe in high support and high challenge, and in developing young people who are not only academically successful but also resilient, reflective, and ready to contribute positively to society. As a leader in our school, you will model outstanding practice, cultivate collaboration, and empower both staff and students to continually improve.

This is an opportunity to lead with purpose: to design a curriculum that inspires, to develop teaching that ignites curiosity and ambition, and to build a culture where health, wellbeing and achievement are inseparable. If you are passionate about creating meaningful change, about inspiring both colleagues and students, and about leaving a lasting legacy on a community, then Corby Technical School offers the platform to do just that.
