Become a Governor at Stephenson Academy
Stephenson Academy
is looking for governors to join our Governing Board, which is a sub-committee of the Stephenson MK Trust Board of Trustees. Governors
make a valuable contribution to children’s education, opportunities and
futures. They are responsible for shaping the strategic direction of the school
and act as a ‘critical friend.’
Being a governor is
a challenging but hugely rewarding role. It will give you the chance to make a
real difference to young people, give something back to our local community and
use and develop your skills.
What is involved?
The role of the
governing body is to ensure clarity of
vision, ethos and strategic direction; hold executive leaders to account for
the educational performance of the school and its pupils, and the performance
management of staff; oversee the financial performance of the school and make
sure money is well spent. To do this, the full governing
body meets five times per year, currently on a Tuesday from 17.00 – 19.00.
How much time does it take?
It
is a voluntary role and so it is up to you how much time you commit, but as a
minimum, you would need to devote some time to training and attend and prepare
for the full governing body meetings.
What skills are needed?
There is no
requirement for you to have an understanding of the education system, just the
necessary skills, character and time to contribute. We require a broad range of
skills including health and safety, IT, data interpretation, finance, HR, law
and governance.
If you
feel that you could offer your time, skills and help to make a difference to Stephenson
Academy please consider applying. To apply, please complete the application
form provided and return it to Kayleigh Armstrong, Governance Professional, on kayleigh.armstrong@stephensonacademy.org.uk by midday Thursday 25th June
2025.
