It is an exciting time
at Becket Keys Church of England School (OfSTED Outstanding in all areas and
SIAMS Outstanding in all areas). We are working hard to build upon several
years of strong GCSE and A Level successes that have placed us in the top two
schools of our kind in East Anglia (according to the Sunday Times Parent Power
Guide).
We are now seeking a new female PE teacher to join our highly successful and hard‑working department to cover a maternity leave. If you enjoy working collaboratively and are committed to delivering engaging, practical lessons, we would be keen to hear from you. Recently qualified teachers are particularly encouraged to apply, as we have an excellent track record of supporting Early Career Teachers. Experienced teachers are equally welcome and will find a supportive, ambitious and well‑resourced department
Given the strength and popularity of girls’ football at the school, we are particularly seeking a candidate who can teach football to a high standard and lead high‑quality football clubs as part of our extensive extra‑curricular programme. The ability to deliver high‑quality lessons in basketball and athletics is also desirable, with specialist expertise in at least one of these three disciplines essential. The successful candidate should be willing to teach GCSE PE.
PE is one of the strongest and most successful departments in the school, consistently delivering exceptional standards in curriculum lessons, extra‑curricular provision, and examination outcomes. Students thoroughly enjoy PE, with strong uptake at GCSE and A Level. Our curriculum is highly practical, ensuring students develop a broad range of skills, strong physical literacy, and a sustained appreciation of health and fitness.
We run an ambitious and varied extra‑curricular programme, and we are looking for someone with the energy, commitment, and passion to contribute fully including running clubs at lunchtime and after school throughout the week. The successful candidate should hold a full driving licence for at least two years and be willing to drive the school minibus to support fixtures and extra‑curricular activities (we provide training for this and the MIDAS qualification as part of our support package to new staff).
In recent years, the department has achieved outstanding success at district, county, and national level across boys’ and girls’ sports. Highlights include the U16 Boys being crowned National Basketball Champions in 2022, three teams reaching the Regional Finals of the National Track and Field Cup, and the U13 Girls’ Football Team progressing to the semi‑finals of the National Cup last year. Additionally, our netball and rugby 7s squads have enjoyed strong county‑level success, and our U14 Girls’ Football Team are currently through to the semi‑final of the Essex Cup.
The appointee will be committed to our high expectations and core values; we welcome applications from teachers irrespective of their faith or belief. However, we ask for applicants to appreciate and respect the beliefs of others and have strong moral principles.
Staff here are provided with a comprehensive induction programme and laptop, childcare vouchers are available, and childcare is available at a neighbouring provision with discounted rates for staff members.
Becket Keys is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people. The successful candidate will be subject to an enhanced DBS check.
