About the Role

Henry Box School is seeking committed and community-minded individuals to join its Local Committee. This is a rewarding voluntary opportunity to support the school’s vision, contribute to the success and well-being of students, and help strengthen links between the school and the local community.

The Local Committee plays an important advisory and supportive role, working collaboratively with school leaders to promote high standards of education, safeguarding, well-being, and community engagement.

Main Responsibilities

  • Attend approximately three committee meetings each academic year
  • Support and challenge school leadership in a constructive and positive manner
  • Contribute local knowledge, professional experience, and community insight
  • Promote the values and reputation of the school within the wider community
  • Assist with monitoring areas such as student well-being, attendance, safeguarding, and school development priorities
  • Uphold confidentiality and act in the best interests of the school and its students at all times

Who We Are Looking For

We welcome applications from individuals from all backgrounds and professions. Previous governance experience is not required, and training will be provided.

We are particularly interested in people who:

  • Care about education and young people’s futures
  • Have strong communication and teamwork skills
  • Can offer professional or life experience in areas such as business, education, finance, marketing, HR, safeguarding, health, community work, or leadership
  • Are able to think strategically and ask constructive questions
  • Want to make a positive difference within the local community

Time Commitment

  • Three meetings per year
  • Reading and preparation in advance of meetings
  • Opportunities to attend school events where possible
