Special Educational Needs and Disabilities Coordinator (SENDCo)

SENDCo Job Role:

As a SENDCo, you'll be an experienced teacher with a passion for supporting pupils with special educational needs. Working closely with the Principal and other colleagues, you'll develop and use your specialist knowledge and understanding to raise educational attainment by leading provision in our Academy for pupils with special educational needs. You will be responsible for developing and implementing the Academy’s and Trust’s SEND strategy and supporting class teachers and support staff in implementing and monitoring support plans.

The successful candidate will:

• ·         Hold Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) and the National Award for SEN Coordination (or a commitment to work towards it).
• ·         Have experience in supporting pupils with a range of SEND needs across primary age groups.
• ·         Have experience working with external agencies to ensure the best outcomes for pupils.
• ·         Be child-centred and put the children’s best interests at the heart of your teaching.
•            Be an excellent classroom practitioner; able to engage, motivate and inspire all children
• ·         Have a passion for providing opportunities that enable all children to flourish and grow.
•            Have high aspirations of yourself and others – demonstrating tenacity and ambition
•            Be committed to personal and professional development and thrive in a culture of learning.
•            Have enthusiasm and the qualities of a strong team member and leader

•            Be a strong communicator with excellent interpersonal skills to work effectively with pupils, parents, staff, and external professionals.

Job Description: Main purpose

The SENDCo, under the direction of the Principal, will:

• ·         Determine the strategic development of special educational needs (SEN) policy and provision in the school
• ·         Be responsible for day-to-day operation of the SEN policy and work with class teachers to co-ordinate specific provision to support individual pupils with SEN or a disability
• ·         Provide professional guidance to colleagues, working closely with staff, parents and other agencies
• ·         Advise on the deployment of the school’s delegated budget and other resources to meet pupils’ needs effectively.
• ·         Be a designated safeguarding lead, focusing on the pupils with SEND
•            The SENCo will be expected to fulfil the responsibilities of a teacher, as set out in the STPCD
