Fulbrook School would like all candidates to answer specific questions for the personal statement section. For reference, here is a preview of the questions/headings:

  1. English can sometimes be seen as 'boring' by students who prefer practical subjects. Can you describe a specific lesson you delivered to a disengaged KS3 group that successfully sparked their interest in a complex text or concept?
  2. Describe a time when you had to adapt your teaching mid-lesson for a mixed-ability Year 10 class. How did you ensure both the high-attaining students and those with SEND or EAL made progress?
  3. How have you collaborated within a department team before? How have you contributed to the development of the curriculum, or a specific area of the subject?
  4. With the current focus on GCSE 'closed book' exams, how have you successfully developed students' ability to recall and analyse key quotations or themes over a long period of time?
  5. Give us an example of a challenging behaviour situation you managed effectively in the classroom. What specific strategies from your own repertoire or the school’s policy did you use to de-escalate the situation?
  6. Tell us about a specific cohort or student who was underperforming. How did you use data to identify the gap, what intervention did you put in place, and what was the eventual impact on their progress?
  7. You are at the end of a lesson and a student lingers behind to make a disclosure that makes you concerned for their safety. Talk us through exactly what steps you would take next.
