The following are specific to this role and are in addition to the current job description for a Teacher.

Job purpose

·       To lead on the improvement of teaching skills through modelling high-quality teaching, and coaching and training other staff


Main duties and responsibilities

Leading Teaching & Learning

·       Model consistently high-quality teaching and be able to demonstrate excellent practice to others

·       Produce high-quality teaching materials that support excellent practice

·       Prepare and deliver training courses across the school to improve teachers’ practice

·       Support with teachers’ professional development and performance management through carrying out lesson observations, work scrutinies, learning walks etc. providing feedback and implementing strategies to improve practice

·       Mentor and coach individual teachers in need of 1 to 1 support to improve their practice

·       Use data to identify individuals or groups of students that need targeted support, and develop and implement strategies to raise achievement

·       Use data to identify individuals or groups of teachers that need further support to improve their practice and develop and implement strategies to raise the quality of their teaching

·       Set high expectations for students on intervention programmes and communicate with parents, providing updates on student’s progress

·       Monitor and evaluate the impact of interventions designed to raise achievement for students

·       Promote effective strategies which support differentiation, inclusion and positive behaviour

Whole school organisation, strategy and development

·       Contribute to the development, implementation and evaluation of the school’s and trust’s policies, practices and procedures, so as to support the school’s and trust’s values and vision

·       Make a positive contribution to the wider life of the school

Professional development

·       Lead on researching best practice

·       Keep up to date with the latest developments in teaching and learning

·       Share knowledge and support others to implement this into their own practice

·       Share the latest innovations in the area of intervention strategies

·       Contribute to CPD programmes to improve the quality of teaching and learning

·       Where appropriate, take part in the appraisal and performance management of others

·       Actively engage with arrangements for your own further training and professional development


This job description will be supported by the school improvement plan which may identify key distinct tasks and responsibilities for this role in the school year. These will be derived from ongoing school self-evaluation and other local/national priorities. The Postholder’s duties must be carried out in compliance with the school’s policies and procedures including child protection and safeguarding procedures.
