Location: Barnhill Community High School
Salary: Leadership Scale point 13-17 (£73,708 - £80,884)
Contract Type: Permanent
Hours: Full time
Start Date: Easter or September 2026
Reporting to: Deputy Headteacher
Barnhill Community High School is a high-performing, heavily oversubscribed school in West London, with academic outcomes consistently in and around the top 5–10% nationally. Our ethos is rooted in Respect, Wisdom, Aspiration and Community, and we are proud of the exceptional culture of learning, discipline and care that enables every student to thrive. Our most recent Ofsted inspection judged the school to be ‘Outstanding’ and our work with disadvantaged children is a particular strength.
We are seeking to appoint an outstanding Assistant Headteacher to join our Achievement Team, with a core remit to strengthen the relationship between curriculum design and student outcomes. This is a high-impact senior leadership role for an individual who understands, in forensic detail, how curriculum intent is translated into strong classroom practice, secure learning over time, and exceptional results.
The role
You will provide strategic and operational leadership across the achievement agenda, ensuring that curriculum design, implementation and evaluation are relentlessly focused on outcomes. Key responsibilities will include:
· Curriculum design and coherence: working with curriculum leaders to secure rigorous sequencing, clear endpoints, and high challenge across subjects.
· Target setting and ambition: establishing intelligent, demanding targets that reflect Barnhill’s high expectations for all students.
· Progress monitoring through the curriculum: building and refining systems that track learning, not just performance—identifying gaps early and acting decisively.
· Quality assurance and evaluation: using evidence from assessments, work scrutiny, lesson visits and student voice to diagnose issues and drive improvement.
· Intervention strategy for outcomes: ensuring that academic interventions are precisely targeted, time-limited, and demonstrably effective.
· Team leadership and alignment: working in close partnership with the Curriculum Leadership Team, and collaborating with pastoral and support teams where needed to ensure barriers never become excuses.
The person
We are looking for a highly credible leader who can demonstrate:
· A strong track record of improving outcomes through curriculum design and implementation
· Expert knowledge of the curriculum–outcomes link (sequencing, assessment validity, reteach/retrieval, responsive intervention, and the conditions for strong learning)
· The ability to set direction, secure consistency, and hold teams to account with clarity and professionalism
· Confidence with data and evaluation, while keeping the focus on what students know, remember and can do
· The interpersonal skill to lead through others—developing middle leaders and establishing a shared language of achievement
Why Barnhill
Barnhill offers a supportive, solution-focused culture, a talented and committed group of middle leaders, and a strong record of developing and nurturing senior leaders.
