About this Role

Lead Practitioner of Mathematics King’s Leadership Academy Liverpool Part of the Great Schools Trust

This is an exceptional opportunity for an outstanding Mathematics practitioner and instructional leader who wants to make a tangible, school-wide impact while remaining firmly rooted in the classroom. King’s Leadership Academy Liverpool, a proud member of the Great Schools Trust, is seeking a Lead Practitioner of Mathematics to play a pivotal role in driving teaching excellence, curriculum quality and student outcomes in one of our most strategically important subjects. You will join a rapidly improving, highly ambitious academy where high standards, strong routines and belief in every child underpin everything we do.

Why Join Us?

Transformational Leadership: Our Principal, Mr Scott Cordon, was named Outstanding Head Teacher of the Year in the North of England twice in 2025. His exceptional leadership and SLT have been nationally recognised for their profound impact on pupils, staff, and the wider community.

National Recognition: King’s Liverpool was ranked the 26th most improved secondary school in the UK for pupil progress, a testament to our relentless focus on raising standards, improving culture, and delivering an aspirational education for all.

Part of a Leading Trust: The Great Schools Trust is currently ranked No. 2 nationally for most improved multi-academy trust performance. We are a mission-driven organisation where academic excellence, character development, and student success go hand in hand.

At King's Liverpool, community isn't just a buzzword: it's the foundation of everything we do. In our latest anonymous Edurio Staff Survey, King's Liverpool significantly exceeded the National Average across several key areas, including:

  • Staff highly recommend our Academy as a great place to work and study.
  • Staff feel genuinely respected by our Leadership Team.
  • Excellent communication between Staff and Leadership.
  • Staff being actively consulted before key decisions are made.
  • Leadership demonstrating that they take staff feedback seriously.

Our survey results reflect the strong, collaborative culture we are proud to have built and continue to nurture here at King's Liverpool.

Our staff know they are valued: and it shows. As one colleague put it: “Staff are warm, open and friendly. I can knock on my Head’s door without a meeting set and always feel welcomed in.” Others described “a real sense of community,” and said “the students make it clear they appreciate what we do.”

Please do book in for a tour - it's highly recommended - details below!

This is ideal for a strong classroom practitioner who:

  • Is an exceptional mathematics teacher with the credibility to lead and influence others.
  • Believes that discipline, clarity and consistency are essential for student success.
  • Enjoys coaching colleagues and seeing others improve, not just leading from the front.
  • Wants to make a measurable impact beyond their own classroom.
  • Is ambitious, reflective and aligned with the Trust’s ASPIRE values.

As Lead Practitioner of Mathematics, you will:

  • Model exceptional classroom practice, setting the standard for mathematics teaching across the department.
  • Lead the refinement of curriculum sequencing, explanation, representation and mathematical thinking.
  • Coach and develop colleagues through live practice, feedback and deliberate improvement cycles.
  • Support ECTs and early career teachers to rapidly develop confident, consistent classroom practice.
  • Monitor and improve teaching quality through lesson visits, work scrutiny and intelligent use of data.
  • Lead and contribute to high-quality mathematics CPD, aligned to Trust and academy priorities.
  • Work closely with the Head of Faculty and senior leaders to raise standards and close gaps.
  • Retain a strong classroom presence while influencing practice beyond your own classes.
