Head of Mathematics
We are seeking an exceptional and ambitious Head of Mathematics to lead our department with clarity, energy and uncompromisingly high expectations. This is an exciting opportunity for a committed and skilled leader to shape and develop a thriving Mathematics department, strengthen whole‑school numeracy, and inspire a genuine love of Mathematics across our through school community (Years 5–11).
The school was recently judged ‘Good’ by Ofsted in April 2024 and continues to grow with confidence and ambition.
The Role
The successful candidate will provide strategic leadership for Mathematics, establishing a clear and compelling vision for teaching, learning and assessment across all phases. Central to the role is the design and implementation of a coherent, carefully sequenced and ambitious Maths curriculum from Year 5 to Year 11, ensuring:
Strong conceptual understanding
Secure fluency
Confident problem-solving
Clear progression between key stages
Working in line with the school’s knowledge rich pedagogical approach, the Head of Mathematics will ensure consistently high expectations, excellent outcomes for all pupils, and learning experiences that enable students to flourish academically and personally within a nurturing and inclusive environment.
The role includes:
Leading, supporting and developing Mathematics colleagues
Refining departmental practice through thoughtful use of assessment and curriculum review
Championing high-quality numeracy across the wider school
Contributing to whole school improvement and professional dialogue

About the School
King James Academy Royston is a Y5-Y11 through school, formed in 2019 through the amalgamation of two middle schools and an upper school. Since 2020, the school has been part of the Diamond Learning Partnership Trust.
Located approximately 12 miles from Cambridge, the school benefits from strong transport links, including easy access to London.
