Are you passionate about bringing literature to life and inspiring the next generation of critical thinkers, writers, and creators? Do you thrive on exploring complex texts, big ideas, and challenging perspectives, and want to share that passion with both students and colleagues? If so, we have an exciting opportunity for you to join our team as Lead Practitioner of English.

This is a unique leadership role for an outstanding teacher of English who can combine classroom excellence with the vision to shape teaching and learning. You will play a central role in driving academic rigour, creativity, and intellectual curiosity, ensuring our students leave with not just strong results, but also the confidence and independence to flourish beyond the classroom.

Working closely with the Head of Department, you will:

  • Lead professional development, mentoring, and coaching,
  • Design and share innovative teaching resources that stretch and challenge the most able while supporting all learners to achieve their potential.
  • Contribute to curriculum design across the Trust, ensuring that our English provision is ambitious, engaging, and academically rigorous.
  • Support staff in developing high-quality practice rooted in scholarship, critical debate, and cultural capital.
  • Use data insightfully to target interventions, refine pedagogy, and ensure consistently excellent student outcomes.
  • Create a CPD programme that equips staff to effectively teach English qualifications.

As a Lead Practitioner, you will model inspirational teaching—whether applying theoretical frameworks, embedding criticality or developing students’ essay craft, you will help to embed a culture of intellectual stretch across the department. This role is not just about securing top results; it is about creating a community of students who are active consumers and producers of meaning.

To be successful, you will bring:

  • Recent experience of teaching English Literature and/or Language, with a track record of excellent outcomes.
  • The ability to lead high-impact CPD, inspiring colleagues with both subject knowledge and pedagogy.
  • A deep understanding of exam board specifications, curriculum design, and wider developments in English education.
  • The vision and drive to mentor colleagues and build capacity across the department.

If you are ambitious and committed to shaping a culture of excellence within English, we would love to hear from you.
