About this Role

Brooklands School is looking to appoint a driven and motivated Design Technology Technician.

The successful candidate will provide essential technical support across the DT department, ensuring the smooth delivery of practical lessons. 

Key responsibilities:

·         Prep resources: Ready all materials, tools, and machinery before practical lessons begin (FT & DT)

·         Maintain standards: Keep workshops, Food room, specialist equipment, and heavy machinery running flawlessly.

·         Classroom support: Help teachers guide students through hands-on projects and practical tasks.

·         Prioritise safety: Enforce strict health and safety rules, routines, and risk assessments.

·         Manage stock: Track inventory levels, source materials, and order supplies efficiently.

·         Keep order: Organise workspaces to guarantee a clean, secure learning environment.

·         Fix equipment: Perform routine checks, basic machine repairs, and regular maintenance.

·         Drive tech: Support cutting-edge projects using laser cutters and 3D printers. 

·         Food Tech: Clear classrooms/work areas after lessons, undertake washing up, cleaning of work surfaces, return of resources to appropriate storage etc. - as required

The successful candidate will have:

  • Previous experience working as a DT Technician, Workshop Technician or in a similar technical role.
  • Knowledge of workshop practices, machinery and health and safety regulations.
  • Experience with woodwork, metalwork, engineering or manufacturing environments.
  • Strong organisational skills and attention to detail.
  • The ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • A positive and flexible approach to supporting staff and students.
