About this Role

We are seeking a caring, committed Teaching Assistant to join our team and support pupils’ learning and development across the school. Working under the direction of the Senior Leadership Team, SENDCo and class teachers, the post holder will play a key role in helping pupils access learning, develop socially and emotionally, and engage positively in school life.
The role includes providing targeted support to individuals and small groups, assisting with classroom preparation and learning activities, and supporting pupils both in and out of the classroom. A significant aspect of the post involves working on a 1:1 basis with a child who requires personal care and medical assistance, including toileting, hygiene, moving and handling, and support in line with an individual healthcare plan.
Previous experience is not essential, but applicants must be willing to undertake relevant training and work confidently and sensitively to meet pupils’ medical and personal care needs.  Experience of personal or medical care, trauma‑informed practice, and intervention programmes is desirable.
We are looking for someone who:
  • Has at least two years’ experience working as a Teaching Assistant in a school setting
  • Holds a Level 2 Teaching Assistant qualification (or equivalent) and GCSE English and Maths (Grade C/4 or above)
  • Has experience supporting pupils with SEND and behaviour difficulties
  • Demonstrates excellent communication skills and the ability to build positive relationships with pupils, staff and parents
  • Is calm, compassionate, flexible and able to work effectively as part of a team
  • Is willing to undertake first aid, safeguarding, and medical support training

The successful candidate will demonstrate professionalism, discretion and a strong commitment to safeguarding, inclusion and the values and ethos of the school.

Pennine Way Junior Academy offer a welcoming, supportive environment and opportunities for ongoing professional development.

Due to this post having access to children and/or vulnerable adults, the successful candidate will be required to undertake a Disclosure and Barring Service check. The possession of a criminal record will not necessarily prevent an applicant from obtaining this post, as all cases are judged individually according to the nature of the role and information provided.

If you wish to apply for this position, please read the job description and person specification, and complete the application form.
