The Role

We are seeking an inspiring and knowledgeable Head of History to lead our successful History department. This is an excellent opportunity for an ambitious teacher to take on a pivotal leadership role and shape the continued success of History within the College.

As Head of History, you will:

  • Provide strategic leadership of the History curriculum to ensure it remains ambitious, engaging and knowledge‑rich.
  • Lead, manage and develop a team of History specialists, fostering a collaborative and supportive culture.
  • Be accountable for raising attainment and achievement across all key stages, ensuring that all students make excellent progress.
  • Monitor and track student outcomes, using assessment effectively to identify strengths and areas for development.
  • Champion high‑quality teaching and learning, supporting colleagues through shared planning, coaching and subject‑specific CPD.
  • Contribute to whole‑school priorities and play an active role within the wider Humanities faculty.

What We’re Looking For

We are looking for a committed and dynamic curriculum leader who:

  • Has a strong track record of excellent History teaching and deep subject knowledge.
  • Demonstrates passion, expertise and a clear vision for a high‑quality History curriculum.
  • Can motivate, inspire and develop colleagues within the department.
  • Shows excellent communication, organisation and interpersonal skills.
  • Is committed to enabling all students—including those who find the subject challenging—to achieve outstanding outcomes.
  • Embraces reflective practice, ongoing professional learning and the values of Scholarship, Curiosity and Tenacity

Why Join Us?

  • Impeccable student behaviour and a culture that allows you to focus on what matters—supporting learning.
  • No unnecessary bureaucracy—just high‑impact systems that work.
  • A knowledge‑rich curriculum, rooted in powerful knowledge and informed by cognitive science.
  • A warm, disciplined and joyful school culture where every child is expected to succeed.

These values align strongly with Cottenham Village College’s commitment to high expectations, excellent behaviour, a rigorous knowledge‑based curriculum and a supportive environment where both students and staff thrive.
