Job Description: Creative Art and Technology Technician (20 hours per week) Start Date: ASAP New Scale Point: Scale 3, Point 5-6 (£11,754-£11,941) (pro-rata, dependent on experience)
Art & Design (inc Textile and Photography) • Prepare and organise materials, tools, and equipment for lessons and workshops in Art, Textiles, and Photography. • Support teaching staff and students during practical sessions, providing technical assistance with media such as paint, fabric, dye, clay, thread, and digital tools. • Set up and maintain specialist equipment, including sewing machines, screen printing frames, looms, heat presses, cameras etc. • Ensure studios, workspaces, and equipment are clean, safe, and ready for use, in line with health and safety and COSHH guidelines. • Maintain and manage stock levels of art supplies, textiles materials, and other consumables – including ordering and liaising with suppliers. • Support the creation and mounting of displays and exhibitions, including student artwork, end-of-year shows, and gallery installations. • Assist with the safe handling, storage, and disposal of specialist materials such as dyes, inks. • Provide technical support for digital editing software, such as Adobe Photoshop. • Ensure safe storage and routine maintenance of tools such as cutting mats, scalpels, scissors, needles, and printmaking equipment. • Support students with practical skills development, offering guidance and supervision when using specialist equipment or techniques. • Keep accurate records of maintenance, inventories, and health & safety checks. Catering • Prepare ingredients, equipment, and resources for practical food lessons, ensuring all items are correctly measured, stored, and ready for use. • Support teaching staff and students during practical sessions, aiding with food preparation, hygiene practices, and equipment handling. • Maintain high standards of cleanliness in food rooms and preparation areas, including thorough cleaning and sanitising of surfaces, utensils, and appliances. • Ensure compliance with food hygiene and health & safety regulations, including maintaining up-to-date records such as temperature checks, cleaning schedules, and allergen information. • Monitor and manage stock levels, including ordering ingredients, checking deliveries, and storing food safely in accordance with food safety guidelines. • Check and maintain kitchen equipment and appliances, arranging repairs or servicing as needed, and ensuring they are in safe working order. • Set up and dismantle practical workstations efficiently before and after lessons, ensuring a smooth transition between sessions. • Label and store ingredients appropriately, including safe handling and disposal of perishable items and waste. • Assist with food displays, events, and enrichment activities, such as open evenings, competitions, or cultural food days. • Work with teaching staff to adapt recipes and practical tasks to accommodate dietary restrictions, allergies, or specific curriculum needs. • Support student understanding of safe and hygienic food handling practices, reinforcing classroom instruction where appropriate. • Maintain accurate records for stock, food hygiene compliance, and health & safety checks.
