Reporting to the Deputy Head (Quality Assurance – Academic and Pastoral), the successful candidate will provide strong subject leadership, accountability and support to a team of teachers and support staff, fostering a culture of high expectations, inclusion and safeguarding in line with the College’s Catholic ethos.
The role involves leading curriculum design and development, ensuring a broad, balanced and ambitious Art and Design curriculum that engages students and meets statutory and examination requirements, including GCSE and A Level provision. The post holder will be responsible for monitoring standards, using assessment and progress data effectively to secure strong outcomes for all learners, including those with SEND and those who are disadvantaged. There is a strong emphasis on collaboration, enrichment and innovation, including cross-curricular projects, use of digital technologies, and partnerships with feeder schools and external organisations.
As a middle leader, the Head of Art and Design will play an active role in whole-school improvement, modelling excellent professional practice and contributing to staff development, performance management and departmental CPD. The ability to inspire others, manage resources effectively and promote a positive departmental ethos aligned with the College’s mission and values is central to the role.
We welcome applications from strong practitioners with secure subject knowledge across KS3–KS5 and would particularly welcome candidates with a specialism in Fine Art, who can bring creativity, expertise and passion to further enrich our curriculum and outcomes for students. This role offers an exciting opportunity for an experienced teacher or existing middle leader to shape the strategic direction of Art and Design within a supportive and aspirational school community
