An exciting opportunity has arisen within our science team
for an apprentice science technician. The apprentice will be working in a
school environment and will be trained by a hugely experienced colleague to
prepare science practicals in Physics, Biology and Chemistry for Key Stage 3
and 4. They will also be trained in relevant health and safety matters,
chemical handling, and biological hazards. They will learn how to make up
different solutions of chemicals and have the opportunity to support in a classroom
once fully trained.
The post is for 30 hours per week. 40 weeks per
year. This would ideally begin at 8am to help ensure daily preparations
are in place and end at 2.30pm but precise timings can be negotiated if needed.
Minimum of 5 GCSEs at Grade C/4 or above (including
Mathematics and English Language and a Science subject) or equivalent or having
acquired relevant experience.
Daily tasks will involve:
Upon successful completion, apprentices can apply for
professional registration as a Registered Science Technician, RSciTech, with
either the Royal Society of Chemistry or Royal Society of Biology
Through the training provider, CSR Scientific Training, you
will undertake a Level 3 Laboratory Technician Apprenticeship which will
include:
· Fully
recognised apprenticeship qualification - Level 3 Laboratory Technician
· On-the-job
competency training
· Theoretical
knowledge - BTEC Level 3 Applied Science
The majority of your learning will be completed online once
a week with some face-to-face practical sessions/exams in Sutton
Coldfield. Upon successful completion, apprentices can apply for
professional registration as a Registered Science Technician, RSciTech, with
either the Royal Society of Chemistry or Royal Society of Biology.
The apprenticeship is expected to last between 18-24
months.
