Job Opportunity: Medical Lead

Salary: WAT Grade E (FTE £27,694 - £29,540) actual salary of £16,285 - £17,768 approx.

Contract: Part time, term time, plus 1 week of INSET days, (39 working weeks)

Hours: 25 hours per week, 09:00 – 14:30 Mon - Fri

Start date: TBC

Reporting into: Finance and Operations Manager

As our Medical Lead, you will play a central role in caring for the health and wellbeing of our academy. Working independently, you will oversee all aspects of student medical care, ensure compliance with safeguarding and health regulations, and act as the key point of contact for health-related matters. This is a vital role in supporting the wellbeing, safety, and inclusion of our entire school community. This is a vital and highly valued role, where your expertise, professionalism and compassion will make a meaningful difference to the safety, inclusion and success of every student.

Key Responsibilities

  • ·         Take lead responsibility for the school’s first aid provision, ensuring appropriate cover, supplies, and response procedures are in place.
  • ·         Provide immediate first aid and day-to-day health support to students and staff. responding calmly and effectively to incidents and emergencies.
  • ·         Maintain accurate medical records, accident reports, and individual healthcare plans in line with safeguarding and school policies.
  • ·         Support the implementation of health care plans for pupils with medical needs, liaising with parents and relevant professionals where required.
  • ·         Ensure compliance with first aid regulations, health and safety requirements, and safeguarding procedures.
  • ·         Coordinate first aid arrangements for school trips, events, and after school activities.
  • ·         Deliver basic first aid awareness or refresher training to staff as appropriate.
  • ·         Promote a safe and healthy school environment, contributing to wider wellbeing initiatives.

·      Person Specification

  • ·         A recognised First Aid qualification (e.g. Paediatric First Aid, First Aid at Work) with relevant experience supporting children or young people.
  • ·         Practical experience providing first aid and responding calmly and effectively to medical incidents.
  • ·         Experience contributing to health procedures, risk assessments, or maintaining medical records within a school or similar setting.
  • ·         Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to reassure students and liaise confidently with staff and parents.
  • ·         Strong organisational skills and attention to detail, including accurate record-keeping.
  • ·         A good understanding of safeguarding, child protection, and school health procedures.
  • ·         Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with school leadership, teaching staff, and families.

DBS Checks

This post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 (Exceptions) Amendment Order 1986 and, as such, it will be necessary for a Submission for Disclosure to be made to the Disclosure and Barring Service to check for any previous criminal convictions.
