Careers Assistant
Scale 5 (Point 10-13)
Monday - Friday, 37 hours per week
Term-time, plus two days
Actual salary: £20,932 per annum
The Careers Assistant will play a key role in supporting the delivery and development of an outstanding careers education programme across the school. Working closely with the Careers and Aspirations Leader, the successful candidate will provide high-quality careers guidance to students, coordinate careers-related activities and events, develop strong relationships with employers and external organisations, and ensure the school's careers provision continues to meet the Gatsby Benchmarks.
The successful candidate will either hold the Level 6 Diploma in Careers Guidance and Development or be willing to complete this qualification within the first 18 months of employment. Where the school funds this qualification, the successful candidate will be required to remain in post for an agreed period following completion of the course or repay the cost of the qualification in accordance with the school's training agreement.

Information about the School
St Martin's School is a large co-educational comprehensive school located in Hutton, Brentwood. The school benefits from a pleasant semi-rural environment with agricultural land to the rear. The school, which also includes a large sixth form block, is situated on an open, attractive 30 acre site. Parking is available on-site and there are good transport links by both rail and bus. Hutton is five miles from the M25 and 19 miles from London, which is easily reached by road or train (25 minutes to Liverpool Street Station).
This is a large, but friendly school in which all staff are helped to develop their talents. This is supported by an extensive and wide ranging in-house continual professional development programme (CPD). We have high quality mentoring and induction programmes for staff with excellent opportunities for training and professional development.
2025 – 74.9% of students achieved grades 9-4 in GCSE English Literature and 74.8% in GCSE English Language and 78.1% of students achieved grades 9-4 in Mathematics 2024 – 77.5% of students achieved 9 - 4 in GCSE English Literature and 79.5% in GCSE English Language and 79.9% of students achieved 9 - 4 in Mathematics - Over Subscribed - 1184 applications for 292 year 7 places in 2023 - Ofsted 2024 - Good with outstanding leadership
