About this Role

Pastoral Support Co-ordinator

Level 3D Points 7 – 11 £20600 - £21956 per annum (actual salary - pay award pending)

Monday to Friday: 8:15am to 3:30pm

33.75 hours per week, term time only plus 5 training days

Required for September 2026

At Arnold Academy, our students are at the heart of everything we do. We believe that for young people to achieve their academic potential, they must first feel safe, valued, and supported.

We are seeking to appoint an exceptional, resilient, and empathetic Pastoral Support Co-ordinator to join our busy, highly successful, and well-established Pastoral Unit. You will be joining a dedicated team of Heads of Year, Safeguarding Leads, and Pastoral Support Co-ordinators who work tirelessly to champion our students' well-being.

As a Pastoral Support Co-ordinator, no two days will be the same. You will be a key anchor in our Pastoral Unit, providing a triage service for student needs, managing day-to-day behavioural and emotional interventions, and maintaining vital links between the school and families.

This is a non-teaching role designed for a proactive individual who thrives in a fast-paced environment and can remain calm, clear-headed, and compassionate under pressure.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Student Intervention: Provide immediate, high-quality pastoral support to students experiencing emotional, or behavioural difficulties.
  • Triage & De-escalation: Manage the daily "hub" of the Pastoral Unit—de-escalating challenging situations, implementing restorative conversations, and guiding students back to learning.
  • Parental Partnership: Act as a key point of contact for parents and carers, conducting meetings and ensuring open, collaborative communication regarding student progress and boundaries.
  • Multi-Agency Collaboration: Work closely with the SEND department, Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL), and external agencies (such as CAMHS, social care, and early help teams) to implement targeted support plans.
  • Data & Recording: Maintain meticulous, confidential records of student interventions and behavioural data on our management systems (e.g., Bromcom/CPOMS) to track the impact of pastoral care.
  • Safeguarding: Act as a core member of the school’s Safeguarding Team, identifying vulnerabilities, logging concerns meticulously (e.g., via CPOMS), and attending safeguarding briefings to ensure the welfare of all students.

We are looking for someone who genuinely loves working with young people and understands the complexities of adolescent behaviour.

Essential Criteria:

  • Experience working with children or young people in a school, youth work, or alternative care setting.
  • Excellent communication and active listening skills, with the ability to build quick rapport with hard-to-engage students.
  • Extreme resilience and a calm demeanour when handling challenging, emotional, or high-pressure situations.
  • A firm but fair approach, with a deep understanding of standard school behaviour frameworks and policies.
  • Strong organisational skills and the ability to multitask in a busy operational unit.

Desirable Criteria:

  • Knowledge of specific barriers to learning (such as ADHD, autism, trauma, or mental health challenges).
  • Training in Restorative Practice, de-escalation strategies, or mental health first aid.

What We Offer

  • A highly supportive, experienced, and laughter-filled pastoral team.
  • Comprehensive professional development (CPD) opportunities.
  • A school culture that prioritises staff well-being alongside student care.

Arnold Academy is a great school to be part of, and as part of the wider Pyramid Schools Trust, we offer growth, support, training, and a fantastic environment to work within.
