Ormiston Horizon Academy is looking for an enthusiastic, engaging individual to join us in the role of Cover Supervisor who will have the ability to cover a wide range of lessons in the absence of a teacher. Qualified Teaching Status not required.

The role of Cover Supervisor is an excellent 'foot in the door' role for anyone considering undertaking Teacher Training. This role is offered working for 32.5 hours per week, term time plus 5 development days (39 working weeks). Full support and training will be provided at the start and throughout your time with us, including weekly continuous professional development sessions focused on classroom practice and behaviour management. 

What we're looking for: 

The responsibilities of a Cover Supervisor are varied, and a wide variety of skills are required. Good interpersonal skills are required together with the ability to earn and maintain the respect of students and to ensure the appropriate codes of classroom behaviour are observed.  Applicants for this post must be enthusiastic and possess a determined character, together with a positive approach to working with young people and the ability to set clear guidelines for them. Experience in a Cover Supervisor role is desirable, but not required, as is experience working within an educational setting or with young people. 

The successful candidate will have:

  • good numeracy, literacy and IT skills
  • the ability to communicate effectively and relate well with students and staff
  • the ability to work constructively as part of a team and have an understanding of classroom roles and responsibilities
  • the ability to encourage students to learn and inspire a strong work ethic and be able to manage students behaviour and challenge under performance
