About this Role

Job Purpose

We are looking for a dedicated and dynamic SEND outreach teacher to work with students on and off-site.  We require someone with expertise in delivering high-quality teaching of numeracy, literacy, Maths, and English up to GCSE level for students with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND). The successful candidate will have a strong understanding of the varied needs of SEND students and use innovative and inclusive teaching methods to ensure all learners achieve their full potential. A passion for teaching, an ability to adapt lessons to suit individual needs, and a strong proficiency with technology will be key to success in this role.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Teaching and Learning:

    • Deliver high-quality, adapted lessons in numeracy, literacy, Maths, and English up to Functional skills level 2/GCSE level to students with SEND.
    • Deliver lessons in  school, as well as local spaces, e.g. library and in student homes.  
    • Use a variety of teaching strategies, including technology, to engage students and support their learning styles.
    • Provide additional support to students who are struggling with their studies, including one-to-one sessions.
    • Assess and track student progress regularly, adjusting teaching methods and resources as needed to ensure students' academic growth.
  2. Learner Management:

    • Create an inclusive, supportive, and stimulating learning environment that accommodates the diverse needs of SEND students.
    • Implement effective classroom management and learning strategies to maintain a positive learning atmosphere.
    • Promote the development of social, emotional, and behavioural skills alongside academic achievement.
  3. Collaboration and Support:

    • Work closely with the SENDCo, teaching staff, and other professionals to ensure a coordinated approach to supporting SEND students.
    • Communicate effectively with parents/carers to discuss student progress, concerns, and strategies for support at home.
    • Collaborate with external professionals (e.g., educational psychologists, speech therapists) to develop and deliver interventions that support students’ learning and well-being.
  4. Technology Integration:

    • Utilise digital tools and resources to enhance student learning, ensuring accessibility for students with varying needs.
    • Integrate assistive technologies and educational software to support numeracy, literacy, and GCSE subjects.
    • Stay up-to-date with emerging technologies and educational tools that can be used to enhance SEND teaching.
  5. Professional Development:

    • Participate in ongoing professional development and training to improve knowledge and skills in SEND education and the latest teaching methods.
    • Stay informed about changes in GCSE curricula, SEND legislation, and best practices in inclusive teaching.

Person Specification

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Qualified teacher status (QTS) or equivalent.
  • Experience teaching numeracy, literacy, Maths, and English up to GCSE level, ideally in a SEND context.
  • A relevant qualification in Special Educational Needs, teaching, or a related field.
  • Strong understanding of SEND, including experience with students with dyslexia, autism, ADHD, and other learning difficulties.
  • Proficiency in using educational technologies and software to enhance teaching and learning.

Skills and Abilities:

  • Strong classroom management skills, with the ability to create an inclusive, engaging, and supportive environment for students with SEND.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to work collaboratively with staff, students, and parents.
  • Ability to adapt teaching methods and materials to meet the diverse needs of SEND students.
  • Strong organizational skills, with the ability to plan and deliver lessons that are both engaging and effective.
  • A proactive and flexible approach to problem-solving, able to quickly adjust to the evolving needs of students.
