About the Department

Science at AGS continues to go from strength to strength:

• 64% of GCSE Biology students achieved Grade 7+

• 73% of A-Level Biology students achieved A*–B last year

• AQA Biology at GCSE and A-Level

• Strong emphasis on practical work and academic depth

• Extensive outreach, university visits and enrichment programme

Biology is popular and successful at Sixth Form, with significant A-Level teaching available. The department is collaborative, well-resourced and highly supportive.

The Role

As Head of Biology, you will:

• Lead and develop the Biology curriculum across KS3–KS5

• Drive outstanding teaching and learning

• Use performance data strategically to secure excellent outcomes

• Line manage and develop colleagues

• Oversee departmental improvement planning and quality assurance

• Contribute fully to whole-school priorities

• Lead an exciting extra- and super-curricular programme

We are looking for someone who:

• Holds QTS and a strong honours degree in a related subject

• Can teach Biology to KS5 and Science across KS3/4

• Is reflective, organised and inspirational

• Is committed to safeguarding and inclusion

• Is eager to play a full role in the wider life of the school
