About this Role

We are seeking a dedicated HLTA for Reading and Literacy to support with both individual and small groups of students who are working below age related reading expectations, to raise their standards of attainment and achievement.  The HLTA will also assist in the transition of students from Year 6 to 7 to support reading and ensure they reach age-appropriate levels.

The HLTA will form part of a diagnostic literacy team so that precise diagnosis can be followed by evidence-based strategies and interventions, which support reading fluency, phonics, blending, and comprehension among other basic skills. 

We are looking for:

  • Experience of working with young people in  an educational setting
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, including  effective communication skills with students.
  • Experience of delivering phonics-based programmes (eg. Fresh Start)
  • Experience of delivering reading and number intervention
  • Experience with literacy assessment tools
  • Ability to manage own workload

The role is permanent.  37 hours per week x 39 weeks per year.  Actual salary £25,715.27 - £27,919.03

The identity of referees and information relating to disclosures will be verified

You will be required to provide details of any relevant unspent or spent convictions in accordance with the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 (Exceptions (Amendment) Order 1986

An enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check will be requested.  This check will be cross referenced against the Protection of Vulnerable Adults list (PoVA), the Protection of Children Act (PoCA) list and List 99.  These lists contain details of people deemed unsuitable to work with children or vulnerable adults.  Please note that it is an offence to apply, offer or accept to do any work with children (paid or unpaid) if disqualified from working with children.  Applicants will be challenged where inconsistencies exist.
