About this Role

We are a thriving, inclusive, and forward thinking state boarding school that places high expectations, strong relationships, and student wellbeing at the centre of our ethos. We are committed to developing young people who are respectful, resilient, and motivated to succeed, fostering a culture where excellent attendance, positive behaviour, and high standards underpin academic and personal achievement.

We are seeking a leader who can operate at whole-school level, demonstrating strategic thinking and the ability to sustain and embed improvement over time. This is a key senior leadership role, working closely with the Principal and wider leadership team to drive sustained improvements in attendance, behaviour for learning, and student conduct. This area of leadership is central to our school’s success. The successful candidate will lead the development and implementation of robust systems and interventions, ensuring high expectations are consistently applied and that all students are supported to thrive. You will use data intelligently to identify trends, remove barriers to learning, and promote a calm, purposeful, and inclusive learning environment.

As a forward-thinking school, we value reflective leadership, collaboration, and innovation. The successful candidate will be a visible and approachable presence, passionate about equity, safeguarding, and raising standards for all students. You will be committed to working in partnership with staff, students, families, and external agencies to secure the best possible outcomes, while also demonstrating a strong commitment to the wider life of the College through active involvement in co-curricular and personal development programmes, including the willingness to lead or support enrichment opportunities such as sport, music, drama, debating, or public speaking.

If you would like to have a tour of the College and meet the Principal on either Saturday 18 April or Saturday 25 April please email recruitment@hockerill.com.

Previous applicants are welcome to reapply.

We are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff to share this commitment. All post-holders are subject to a satisfactory enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) including barred list check.

We strive to be an inclusive and diverse workplace representative of our student population. Applications from Black, Asian, and minority ethnic candidates are especially welcome.
Applications should provide specific, evidence-based examples of impact and demonstrate contribution beyond the candidate’s immediate role. Candidates are expected to show an understanding of the College’s context; generic or descriptive applications, or those lacking evidence of sustained and embedded impact over time and reflection, are unlikely to be shortlisted.
The personal statement should clearly demonstrate how the candidate meets the person specification, with particular reference to strategic thinking, sustained impact, and reflective practice.
Applications will be assessed against the person specification and using this guidance.

All applications must be submitted via MyNewTerm. CVs will not be accepted.
