We are currently looking to recruit a safeguarding professional to lead our safeguarding provision from September until Christmas 2026. This unusual and interesting opportunity has arisen as the result of the promotion to Headship of our current DSL. This vacancy is open to teachers and non-teachers alike, since our priority is recruiting someone with the knowledge and skills to lead this specific area of our work for a fixed period of time.
The successful candidate will have a strong understanding of safeguarding matters and the capacity to make principled decisions around safeguarding cases as they arise. They will lead our safeguarding team, whose members have specific responsibilities and experience within the area. The role will play a part in our school leadership for the autumn term, sitting on the Senior Leadership Team at Assistant Headteacher level.
In this role there will also be the opportunity to contribute to the school’s leadership in other areas, based on expertise, experience and the school’s needs. This will be discussed at interview and agreed upon appointment. If the successful candidate is a qualified teacher they will also be expected to contribute to the academic life of the school through a teaching commitment. However, subject specialism is not relevant to this appointment. If the successful candidate is not a qualified teacher they will be expected to contribute to the leadership of our support staff in an appropriate way.
Recognising the temporary nature of this post, the expectations around elements of this role profile involving policy development and long term planning will be appropriate to the timeframe of the appointment. A key focus will be implementing the expectations of KCSIE 2026 and contributing to the school’s ongoing commitment to high quality and caring safeguarding practice. Professional supervision is provided for our DSL. A permanent post incorporating DSL responsibilities will be advertised in the autumn term for a January 2027 start.
