We are seeking a compassionate, skilled school counsellor to join the dedicated wellbeing and safeguarding team at Arthur Mellows Village College, an 11-18 Secondary school.   The school counsellor will provide one-to-one counselling support to students across Years 7-13 helping them navigate challenges and develop positive coping strategies. They will be required to keep confidential, accurate records and work closely with a multi-disciplinary team, including the Safeguarding Team, the Senior Mental Health Lead as well as School Nurses, the local MHST team and pastoral staff.

As a key member of our pastoral provision, you will play an important part in fostering a safe, nurturing environment where every young person receives the highest standards of care. The school counsellor plays an important role in supporting students with their difficulties and in communicating and liaising with DSLs, external services, parents/carers as well as relevant school staff in the best interest of the student.

Core Responsibilities:

  • Provide high-quality counselling or brief interventions with young people in the College aged 11-18
  • Work collaboratively as part of a team of Safeguarding experts and the wellbeing lead on supporting mental health and wellbeing in the College.

Qualifications:

Essential:

  • Degree and Masters Degree in Counselling
  • Member of a professional body such as BACP or the NCPS

Desirable:

  • Previous school based counselling experience working with 11-18 year olds

Key Skills and Experience:

  • General children’s mental health specialism experience.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft systems and electronic safeguarding systems.
  • Ability to evaluate, plan, and prioritise workload within demanding timescales.
  • Strong presentation and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Professional and personal drive.
  • Enthusiastic, self-motivated, and self-sufficient.
  • Excellent team player.
  • Strong problem-solving skills.
  • Experience managing own caseload and working towards individual targets and outcomes.
  • Efficient diary management and time boundary maintenance.
  • High standards in written and oral communication.
  • Diverse and varied clinical experience.

Personal Characteristics:

  • Well-developed communication skills.
  • Effective time management.
  • Ability to work autonomously in a busy environment.
  • Ability to work well within a multi-disciplinary team.
