We are seeking a committed and caring Learning Support Assistant to join our support team in a secondary mainstream school. The successful candidate will work closely with teachers and pastoral staff to support students in overcoming barriers to learning, enabling them to achieve their full potential both academically and personally.
You will play a key role in supporting learning, behaviour, attendance, and wellbeing through targeted interventions, in-class support, and small group or 1:1 work.
Key Responsibilities
Supporting Learning & Progress

Support students individually and in small groups to overcome barriers to learning.

Deliver planned learning activities under the guidance of teaching staff.

Adapt and prepare resources to ensure access to the curriculum for all learners.

Support literacy, numeracy, and life skills development.
-
Provide feedback to teachers on student progress, engagement, and learning needs.
Behaviour & Engagement
-
Promote positive behaviour for learning and support students to remain on task.

Use consistent, calm strategies to manage behaviour in line with school policy.

Build positive, supportive relationships that encourage engagement and independence.

Respond appropriately to immediate behavioural or welfare concerns.
Student Welfare & Safeguarding

Support the safety, wellbeing, and emotional needs of students.

Provide basic care and support in response to minor incidents or concerns.

Follow safeguarding procedures and report concerns in line with school policy.

Escort and supervise students during school activities when required.
Communication & Family Engagement

Maintain positive communication with staff regarding student progress and support needs.

Contribute to records, reports, and monitoring of student development.

Support engagement with families, providing feedback on progress and achievement where appropriate.

Draft basic communications home in line with school behaviour and support systems.
Wider School Contribution

Support learning across the school environment, both in and out of classrooms.

Assist with organisation and supervision of students during school activities.

Contribute to creating a safe, inclusive, and positive learning environment.

Essential Requirements

Good standard of education (GCSE English and Maths or equivalent).
