About this Role

We are seeking someone with a deep passion for religious studies and embedding it within a receptive and supportive environment at a thriving Church of England academy.  You will care about your subject and have the ability to bring vibrancy to RS so that students are curious and interested, and encouraged to critique, learn and progress further.

This is an exciting opportunity for either an established teacher or an ECT to inspire the next generation of students to shine. We are a friendly and welcoming academy who will ensure that whatever your career stage, you will be supported by an inspirational and forward-thinking team to develop further knowledge and enhance your teaching tool kit.  We welcome applications from all teachers including ECTs. So, whether you are looking to reinvigorate your engagement with the profession, or you are new to teaching and want to develop your talent, this is the ideal role and environment for you.

As a standalone academy, we believe in our teachers being able to do the role they are employed to do, which is to deliver engaging lessons to our students.  We therefore have an easy and structured behaviour system for our students and you to follow in lessons.  After this, we have dedicated teams who intervene and leave you to continue with the job you love doing!

Our Head of Religious Studies would be delighted to take you on a tour of the school and give you the opportunity to meet the department and answer any questions you may have.

As Teacher of Religious Studies, you will be welcomed into an experienced team of professionals to:

·                     Progress the RS department to even greater successes

·                     Plan and deliver high quality and engaging lessons that will challenge and inspire our students

·                     Encourage students to have high expectations of themselves and their behaviour

·                     Engage students in study at GCSE Level (A-Level is desirable)

·                     Be a positive role model and supportive mentor to students, making a lasting impact on their lives

The Bishop of Winchester Academy is a thriving Church of England school, recently recognised by Ofsted as prioritising ‘wider opportunities alongside achievement so that pupils “live life to the full.”’ (Ofsted 2023).  Operating from recently refurbished facilities, our shared mission to improve the life chances of all of our students is at the very centre of our work.

We put the welfare of our staff at the heart of everything we do and can offer you:

·                     Generous employer pension contribution at 28.6% basic salary from April 2024

·                     Early Friday finish at 1:00pm

·                     Supportive and practical marking policy

·                     Career development with a bespoke CPD programme with a generous allowance of inset days

·                     Excellent newly refurbished teaching facilities with free onsite parking and good local public transport links

·                     Employee Assistance Programme and Cycle to Work scheme

·                     Close proximity to beaches and the Jurassic Coast to assist your work life balance

Safeguarding responsibilities associated with this role may include engagement in regulatory activity, such as caring for an injured/upset child. It may have regular contact with young people on a day-to-day basis.

The Bishop of Winchester Academy is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. The successful candidate will have to meet the person specification and the post is subject to safeguarding checks, including an enhanced DBS check and Children’s Barred List check. The post is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 and the amendments to the Exceptions Order 1975,2013 and 2020.

Please be aware that due to the ‘Keeping Children Safe in Education’ legislation we do not accept CVs.

We reserve the right to close this vacancy early if we receive sufficient applications for the role. Therefore, if you are interested, please submit your application as early as possible.
