About this Role

We are a highly supportive school with strong subject and senior leadership to help you develop.  We are looking for a highly ambitious, committed, and dynamic professional to join our Drama department; someone who is passionate about their subject, communicates well with young people and makes a positive impact on their learning.  The Drama department, as part of the Performing Arts faculty, comprises of 1 full and part time teacher, including a Curriculum Leader. Our teachers are all passionate and skilled within our own areas of expertise.  We work collaboratively to support each other both with the demands of our work and our wellbeing.

Drama is a valued subject in the school and is a popular KS4 Option.  The successful candidate will be able to teach to KS4 across a wide range of abilities and be an inspirational practitioner.

At KS3, in Years 7 and 8, students receive one hour of drama a week.  Students develop their knowledge, understanding and practical skills in line with the National Curriculum and enjoy a diverse and engaging curriculum full of drama exploration, practical opportunities, and skills development.  The successful candidate will be confident in delivering at this level in all areas. At KS4, our students currently follow the Eduqas GCSE Drama specification.

The successful candidate will have a passion about learning, be an excellent teacher, and have great subject knowledge with both theory and practical aspects of drama.

The drama department consists of 2 specialist drama spaces resourced with lighting sound and a ‘black box’ environment. We also have a fully equipped dance studio with the use of barre and mirrors.

Extra-curricular drama is well attended at AVA. We offer a weekly drama club to all key stages focusing on skill development, devising and characterisation work. In addition to this, we present a full-scale winter production as well as our annual musical at the end of the school year. Moreover, we are now offering Arts Award which enables our students to participate in extra performance opportunities. The successful candidate will be invested in contributing to the continuing growth of extra-curricular drama at AVA and be able to lead and support on this.

The successful candidate will value developing key employability and life skills such as analysing evidence, considering impact, critical thinking, research, reciprocation, and value developing literacy.

Visiting the school prior to submission of an application is warmly encouraged.

Our commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of our children will be reflected throughout the recruitment process and the successful applicant will be subject to an enhanced DBS check and an online screening check.

Prospective candidates are encouraged to submit their applications as soon as possible as the school reserves the right to close the advert should we feel able to appoint an appropriate candidate.
