About the Role
We are seeking to appoint an Apprentice Science Technician for a September 2026 start. If you are fascinated by Science and have good practical skills, this could be an ideal opportunity to earn, whilst developing your skills towards a career supporting Science teaching in schools.
The apprenticeship will be
full time, 35 hours per week, during the school terms. Four days each week will
be spent on-site, with one day a study day working towards a Level 3 Laboratory Technician qualification. This is a fixed
term appointment for 20 months up to May 2028 to cover the duration of the
course.
This busy role offers both variety and challenge. As Science Apprentice at The City Academy Hackney, you will join a large and successful Science department, based in well-equipped laboratories. You will be supported by our Senior Science Technician in preparing laboratories and materials, setting up apparatus and equipment, storing and maintaining stock, disposing of materials and ensuring that health and safety requirements are met. You will also have the chance to be hands-on in classrooms, supporting teaching staff and students during lessons.
You will have a genuine enthusiasm for Science and be passionate about supporting our students’ success. You will have Maths and English GCSE at grade 4 or equivalent, with some experience of handling scientific equipment, and a basic understanding of good health and safety practices. The personal qualities needed include good time-management, effective communication skills and the ability to work flexibly as part of a team.
