About the Role

The Building & Facilities Manager will lead a team of two Premises Officers in carrying out day-to-day maintenance on-site, ensuring health and safety, and overseeing facilities management contracts. The post is 35 hours per week, all-year-round, with 29 days annual leave.  Some flexibility in working times and attendance out of hours will be expected. We are anticipating a start date of 1 September 2026.

You will work in a busy school environment where no two days are the same.  From planned refurbishments and routine maintenance, to sudden emergencies, breakdowns and first aid call-outs, you will at all times place the safety and security of staff and students at the centre of all you do. You will need to follow established protocols and legal requirements, whilst at the same time being pragmatic about juggling customer demands - ensuring you and the team provide an efficient and effective service, year round.

Your admin skills will be deployed maintaining records, carrying out audits, developing policies, and overseeing the facilities budget.  You will source and supervise contractors, and manage control systems such as access systems, CCTV and fire safety.  You will also carry out H&S inductions/updates for staff and visitors, and provide training in risk assessments.

For this Facilities Manager role, relevant skills, experience and knowledge are more important than formal qualifications. Applicants should have a proven background in facilities management, with experience overseeing building maintenance, and excellent knowledge of health and safety. A customer-focussed approach combined with an ability to prioritise a complex workload is essential. It is also vital that candidates demonstrate creative problem-solving skills, great communication and the ability to head up and support a team.
