About You:
The Milton Keynes Academy is seeking an inspiring and ambitious Subject Leader for Performing Arts with a strong specialism in Music. You are a strategic thinker and creative practitioner who brings clarity, purpose, and passion to the role. You lead with conviction and compassion, modelling outstanding classroom practice while supporting colleagues to refine and elevate their own. You combine high expectations with a collaborative and nurturing approach, ensuring that the Performing Arts team feels valued, supported, and driven to excel.
As a confident curriculum leader, you bring expertise in planning, shaping, and evaluating programmes of study that meet the needs of all learners. You recognise the power of performance, community, and creativity, and you ensure that Music and Performing Arts sit proudly at the heart of the school’s identity.
Leadership Responsibilities:
Lead the strategic development and continual refinement of the Performing Arts curriculum.
Monitor and evaluate teaching quality across the department.
Ensure assessment practice is robust and effective.
Line manage Performing Arts staff and visiting Music Teachers.
Provide coaching, mentoring, and professional development.
Lead department meetings and collaborative planning.
Track, analyse, and report on student progress.
Oversee enrichment, performances, productions, and community events.
Manage budgets, resources, and safe deployment of spaces.
Ensure compliance with safeguarding and health and safety.
Our Ideal candidate will have:
A strong background in Music education and the ability to teach across key stages.
Experience leading or contributing to a Performing Arts department.
Excellent teaching practice and strong subject knowledge.
Experience in coaching, mentoring, or line‑managing staff.
A proven track record of securing strong student outcomes.
Strong organisational and communication skills.
A commitment to inclusion, diversity, and high‑quality opportunities for all students.
