The successful candidate will be responsible for the preparation of materials, equipment and resources for practical lessons across the department. This includes setting up teaching spaces in advance of lessons, supporting staff during practical activities when required, and ensuring that all equipment is maintained, clean, and in safe working order.
A significant aspect of the role is maintaining high standards of health, safety and hygiene. The Technology Technician will carry out regular visual checks of machinery and appliances, ensure safe storage of tools, materials and chemicals in line with health and safety and COSHH requirements, and keep accurate records of checks and maintenance. You will also help to maintain clean, orderly teaching and preparation areas, including stock rooms and specialist rooms, to support effective learning and compliance.
The role involves managing resources and stock effectively. This includes monitoring stock levels, maintaining accurate records, sourcing and ordering materials within agreed budgets, receiving and checking deliveries, and liaising with suppliers where needed. You will also assist with reprographics, displays, and preparation for events such as open evenings.
Strong organisational skills, attention to detail and the ability to manage competing priorities are essential. The post holder must be able to work both independently and as part of a team, showing initiative while following agreed procedures and instructions from teaching staff. Good communication skills are important, as the role involves working closely with staff and students on a daily basis.
The successful candidate will have a good basic education, practical or technological experience, and a sound understanding of safe working practices. You should be confident using information technology, capable of carrying out minor repairs and routine maintenance, and willing to undertake training to support the role as required.
We are looking for someone who is calm, adaptable and dependable, with a strong commitment to supporting young people’s learning and contributing positively to the wider life and ethos of the academy.
