Could you inspire the next generation of artists?

Could your creativity spark confidence, curiosity and courage in young minds?

If so, Thomas Deacon Academy would love to hear from you!

Your role:

You are a vibrant and imaginative Teacher of Art and Photography hoping to join our creative community at Thomas Deacon Academy on a maternity cover basis. This is more than a teaching role, it’s an opportunity to shape young minds, guide expressive journeys, and help students find their voice through visual media.

You’ll deliver engaging, thought-provoking lessons across Key Stages 3 to 5, using your subject expertise to challenge, support and inspire. Whether you're capturing light in a photography studio or exploring mixed media in the art room, your lessons will be rooted in curiosity and designed to build confidence and courage in every learner.

You’ll be a qualified teacher with a passion for inclusive, student-centred learning. You’ll understand how to create a classroom culture where creativity thrives and where every student feels seen, heard, and valued.

The subject accommodates students studying Fine Art, Photography, Graphic Design and Textiles. Applicants with specialism in any of these areas are welcome. Experience in delivering Art and Design programmes at KS3, 4 and 5 is desirable.

About us:

Our Design, Technology, Arts and Performing Arts (DAPA) faculty is a vibrant hub of innovation and expression. Our team of passionate subject specialists and technicians deliver a rich and inclusive curriculum, including GCSE and A-Level Art, Photography, Fashion Textiles, and Graphics.

The Academy’s Ofsted inspection in November 2024 noted that “pupils benefit from a welcoming environment where diversity is celebrated. They enjoy celebrating each other’s differences and participating in cultural activities. The school provides an ambitious curriculum that ensures pupils develop a strong foundation of knowledge and skills from Year 3 through to Year 13, preparing them well for their next stage of education or employment. The Ofsted inspection rated all areas, including the quality of education, behaviour and attitudes, personal development, leadership and management, and sixth-form provision, as 'Good'”.

At Thomas Deacon Academy, we believe in the power of courtesy, commitment, compassion, courage, curiosity, and confidence. These values are at the heart of everything we do, and we are looking for someone who embodies them in their work.
