About this Role

Title:                      Assistant Swimming Teacher

 

Responsible to:        Head of Operations

 

Qualification:          Support Teacher of School Swimming and/or Teacher of School Swimming with Swim England

 

Conditions:             Bucks Pay Range 2  

39 weeks per year

10.5 hours per week

Tuesdays - 8.30am – 15.30pm

Wednesday – 12.30pm – 15.30pm 

 

Job Purpose:          

To support the delivery of the swimming curriculum for pupils within our school pool. To support and assist with swimming instruction during school hours and help to ensure individual pupils programmes are set and followed. To manage pool facilities and promote the safe use of the pool facilities. The candidate will be required to enter the pool when supporting children in the lower part of the school.

 

Main duties and responsibilities include;

  • Promote the inclusion and acceptance of all pupils.
  • Encourage pupils to interact with others and engage in activities led by the teacher/swim instructor.
  • Set realistic goals to ensure progression through the Swim England scheme of work
  • Provide feedback to pupils in relation to progress and achievement under guidance of the teacher/swim instructor.
  • To undertake training required to support children with complex needs including physical disabilities and epilepsy.
  • To support and assist with swimming lessons as per the Swim England guidelines/ scheme of work, Liaising with teachers and other staff.
  • Assist in the development of the school swim programme to meet needs of all pupils.
  • To ensure that pool users are under proper supervision.
  • To ensure the swimming pool and surrounding areas are clean and tidy at all times (squeegeeing/ cleaning surrounding pool areas).
  • Reporting any maintenance issues or needs to the site manager.
  • Cleaning of pool swimming equipment such as floats etc.
  • Assisting with ensuring current procedures are followed for school pool operation, health and safety, emergency evacuation.
  • Reporting any concerns directly to the Headteacher.

 

Supporting Swim Teacher

  • Create and maintain a purposeful, orderly and supportive environment, in accordance with lesson plans.
  • Use strategies, in liaison with the teacher, to support pupils to achieve learning goals.
  • Promote good pupil behaviour, dealing promptly with conflict and incidents in line with established policy and encourage pupils to take responsibility for their own behaviour.

 

Supporting the Curriculum

  • Support structured and agreed learning activities, adjusting activities according to pupil capabilities and responses.
  • Prepare, maintain and use equipment/ resources required to meet the lesson plans/ relevant learning activity and assist pupils in their use.

 

Supporting the school

  • Be aware of and support difference and ensure all pupils have equal access to opportunities to learn and develop.
  • Contribute to the overall ethos/ work/ aims of the school.
  • Appreciate and support the role of other professionals.
  • Attend and participate in relevant meetings as required.
  • Participate in training and other learning activities.

 

General
