About this Role

Fixed Term for two years, reflecting DfE curriculum changes.

Starting date: 1st September 2026.

The College is seeking to appoint an enthusiastic and proactive individual to lead the Computing Department. The department currently offers both the BTEC level 3 Extended Diploma in Computing and BTEC level 2 in ICT.

At present, funding is available for both courses, and we are working closely with the DfE in support of upcoming curriculum changes and potential suitable courses.

This role will involve ensuring the provision of an appropriately broad, balanced, relevant and differentiated curriculum for students studying Computing, in accordance with the aims of the College and the curricular policies determined by the Governing Body and Principal of the College.

You will act as Head of Department and lead curriculum design and implementation across the department, including effective implementation of consistent internal and external assessments in line with awarding body specifications. You will be responsible for monitoring and supporting the progress and achievement of students across the department, implementing interventions where appropriate and liaising with pastoral teams where necessary. You will be responsible for analysing and evaluating student outcomes, disseminating good practice and identifying and addressing areas for improvement.

The post may require teaching across other subjects within the faculty, which may include A Level Computer Science and/or BTEC IT.

The successful candidate will fully participate in the College’s quality assurance processes as well as managing the work of teaching personnel in the department, including timetabling and performance management duties. Furthermore, you will ensure the recruitment and deployment of teaching staff and the deployment of the financial and physical resources to support the department and in line with Safer Recruitment policies.

Loreto Sixth Form College has been awarded a second consecutive outstanding rating in all areas under the latest framework in our December 2022 inspection. Ofsted noted "Leaders place a very high priority on staff mental health and wellbeing including workload. For example, staff can access counselling services, chaplaincy support, and the employee assistance programme". Loreto strives for excellence in staff and students alike, ensuring "Students benefit from an inclusive learning environment that celebrates their individual contributions to the college.”
