About this Role

Join us in transforming lives through Alternative Provision
We are seeking a talented, passionate, and committed Alternative Provision (AP) Support Worker to join our outstanding team at Stevenage Education Support Centre (SESC).
This is an exciting opportunity to play a key role in supporting young people with SEND, SEMH needs, and those at risk of exclusion, helping them re-engage with education and achieve positive outcomes.

About the Role
As an AP Support Worker, you will:
  • Work directly with students both on-site and across a range of external AP settings (including colleges and vocational providers)
  • Support students to engage, attend, and succeed in their personalised programmes
  • Play a vital role in safeguarding, pastoral support, and student wellbeing
  • Build strong relationships with students, families, and external partners
  • Monitor attendance, engagement, and progress, contributing to high-quality outcomes
This is a highly rewarding role for someone who is flexible, resilient, and committed to making a difference.

About Us
SESC is part of the Nexus Herts Federation, working in collaboration with North Herts ESC and other partners to deliver high-quality provision for young people across the region.
We are at the forefront of innovative Alternative Provision and have recently been commissioned by the Local Authority to develop a new SEND unit for KS4 students with EHCPs—a significant and exciting development for Hertfordshire.
Our work is underpinned by:
  • A strong focus on engagement and attendance
  • A commitment to safeguarding and student wellbeing
  • A flexible, multi-provider model including college and vocational pathways
  • A belief in creating life-changing opportunities for young people

What We Are Looking For
We are looking for someone who:
  • Has experience working with young people, particularly those with SEND/SEMH needs
  • Can build positive, professional relationships with vulnerable students
  • Is proactive, organised, and solution-focused
  • Has a strong understanding of safeguarding responsibilities
  • Is confident working across different settings and providers
  • Willing to undertake minibus driver assessment

What We Offer
  • The opportunity to be part of a forward-thinking and supportive team
  • A role where you can make a genuine difference to young people’s lives
  • Ongoing professional development and training, including SEND and safeguarding
  • Opportunities to work across the Nexus Herts Federation
