About this Role

We are thrilled to announce an exciting opportunity for a Teacher of English to join our dynamic team at the North Herts Education Support Centre (NHESC). This role is particularly special as it involves teaching across both Key Stage 3 (KS3) and Key Stage 4 (KS4) in our vibrant school community. As we transition our KS4 students to our new facility in Letchworth, we are looking for an enthusiastic and inspirational educator who is passionate about promoting a love for English.

Our new school building is designed with the needs of our students in mind, creating a close-knit community where every student can thrive. With a capacity for 40 students, the facility will feature a sports hall, an outside football pitch, and a kitchen that will provide hot meals. These amenities will not only enhance the educational experience but also promote a healthy and active lifestyle for our students.

Previous experience will be looked at and there will be opportunities for professional development and progression in the Centre. Further discussions around this will be at interview stage.

Skills and Experience

We are looking for a candidate who embodies the following qualities:

  • Passion for English: A genuine enthusiasm for promoting a love of English literature and language, inspiring students to explore the subject deeply.
  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS): You will hold QTS or an equivalent qualification, demonstrating strong subject and curriculum knowledge in English.
  • Relationship Building: Your ability to build positive working relationships with both staff and students will be essential in creating a dynamic classroom environment.
  • Behaviour Management: Effective behaviour management skills are required to ensure a safe and conducive learning atmosphere.
  • Sense of Humour: A good sense of humour will help you connect with students and create an enjoyable learning environment.

At NHESC, we pride ourselves on being a forward-thinking and ambitious Centre. Our success is driven by a commitment to relentlessly improve standards and outcomes for our students. We welcome applications from both those at the start of their teaching career and experienced practitioners alike.

Professional Development

We believe that our staff are the key to our success, and we offer an innovative induction and professional development programme to support your growth as an educator. You will benefit from:

  • Supportive colleagues who are dedicated to fostering a collaborative and encouraging environment.
  • Enthusiastic students who are eager to learn and grow.
  • A state-of-the-art school building in Letchworth Garden City, set to be completed in October 2026, providing an inspiring backdrop for your teaching.
