About this Role

Radley College is looking for a dedicated, experienced, and inspirational flute teacher to join a distinguished team of woodwind teachers, to teach 8 pupils from April 2026. There is also the opportunity for additional ensemble coaching if desired.

As well as knowledge of teaching strategies, teaching repertoire and adaptability to the individual, the successful applicant will show an active interest and insight into current instrumental teaching, research and development, and in pursuing their own professional development as an instrumental teacher. Most importantly, they will be committed to ensuring every boy makes progress and develops a love of music, whether they are a beginner or a musician with many years’ experience.

In general, the role of a Visiting Music Teacher at Radley is defined as:

  • the teaching, progress and development of each individual student within their specialism; designing a curriculum for each pupil based upon a shared goal;

  • helping the pupil to achieve this by their professional help and expertise;

  • encouraging pupils to take advantage of further opportunities, whether in ensemble music, competitions and wider musical development at school, or through courses, ensembles and competitions externally;

  • being imaginative in ensuring that all boys are exposed to the experience of live performance;

  • keeping records of a pupil’s instrumental progress and up to date with all documentation;

  • providing clear and helpful reports to parents at the end of each term;

  • keeping abreast of current developments in instrumental teaching;

  • working with the Head of Section to attract future music scholars.

In January 2026, a major new music school building opened with a 300-seat concert hall, more intimate recital room, music recording studio, Song Room, four classrooms, and more than 20 dedicated teaching and practice rooms. With unprecedented numbers of boys having instrumental lessons, it is an exciting time to join the Radley College music team.

The deadline for applications is 12 noon Monday 23 February, but we reserve the right to consider applications as they arrive. Interviews will take place week commencing 2 March 2026.
