We are
seeking a highly motivated and enthusiastic Teaching Assistant to join our dynamic and successful English Department. This role is
specifically designed to support the learning and development of students
across English Language, English Literature, Media Studies, and Drama.
The ideal
candidate will have a passion for literature and communication and a genuine
commitment to helping young people achieve their full potential.
Crucially,
this role is integrated into our wider Special
Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) Team. You will work
collaboratively alongside a team of highly skilled Teaching Assistants, the SENDCo,
the Inclusion Lead, and the SEND Assistant.
You will be
an active member of the Learning Zone,
our dedicated learning support space, contributing to a holistic and inclusive
approach to education.

In-Class Support: Assist
teachers in the delivery of engaging lessons across KS3, KS4, and KS5 in English, Media, and Drama. This includes
supporting individual students, small groups, and general classroom management.

Targeted Interventions: Plan and
deliver small-group and one-to-one intervention sessions, focusing on
challenging students to make accelerated progress in their subject knowledge
and skills.

Literacy Lead: Work
alongside the Literacy Lead on developing and implementing effective literacy intervention programs across
the English Department, focusing on improving reading comprehension, writing
accuracy, and vocabulary development for students who need it most.

Learning Zone Support: Supervise
and facilitate planned lunchtime
interventions within the Learning
Zone, ensuring students have access to dedicated academic and emotional
support during unstructured times.

Resource Preparation: Create,
adapt, and prepare teaching materials and learning resources that cater to
diverse learning needs, including those identified on EHCPs (Education, Health
and Care Plans).

Assessment Support: Assist in
marking and providing constructive feedback on student work under the direction
of the class teacher.
·
Qualifications: Minimum of GCSE English Language and Maths (or equivalent)
at grade C/4 or above.
·
English Subject Knowledge: A strong academic background
demonstrated by having at least an A-Level or equivalent qualification
in English Literature or English Language.
·
Experience: Proven experience working with young people (aged 11-18) in an
educational or youth setting.
·
SEND Experience: Experience supporting students with a range of Special
Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND).
·
Intervention Skills: Demonstrable experience in planning and delivering targeted
one-to-one or small-group academic interventions, particularly in literacy.
·
Higher Education: A relevant degree (e.g., English, Media, Drama,
Education).
·
TA Qualification: A relevant Teaching Assistant qualification (e.g., Level 2 or 3).
·
Drama/Media Knowledge: Knowledge or experience supporting learning in Drama or Media
Studies.
