About this Role

Carterton Community College is entering an exciting new chapter under new leadership. With a clear and ambitious vision for the future, the school is on a journey of renewal and growth, placing high-quality teaching, an enriching curriculum and strong relationships at the heart of everything we do.

As part of this journey, we are redesigning our curriculum to ensure that every student benefits from
engaging, meaningful and enriching learning experiences that develop creativity, confidence and cultural capital. Love Literature? Passionate about Performance? Join a school where relationships matter.

At Carterton Community College, we don’t just teach subjects; we build a community. Located on the scenic border of the Cotswolds—yet an easy commute from
Oxford, Cheltenham, and Swindon—we offer the perfect balance of a rural setting with ambitious academic standards.  We are looking for a dedicated Teacher of English who wants the added variety of bringing stories to life through Drama.

We are seeking to appoint a qualified and dedicated

It is an exciting time to be at Carterton Community College – a school on an upward trajectory according to our very recent OFSTED inspection, where relationships matter and there is a strong focus on learning.  Students enjoy their lessons and are fully invested in the school. A school where positive relationships drive the school.

We welcome applications from both ECT’s and experienced teachers.

Curriculum

English

At Key Stage 3, students enjoy a progressive curriculum that develops thematically, designed around key text forms and types of writing.  In any given year, pupils are exposed to novels, short stories, plays, poetry, non-fiction and media texts.  Through our curriculum, we aim to lessen the gap in students’ cultural poverty, build their appreciation and love of reading, develop confidence to read critically across all texts and to write accurately, fluently, effectively for a range of purposes founded on secure linguistic and grammatical knowledge.

At Key Stage 4, students follow the AQA GCSE English Language specification and the AQA GCSE English Literature specification.

At Key Stage 5, we currently offer GCE A level AQA English Language and Literature and GCE/A level EDUQAS Film Studies.  Our Sixth Form is continually expanding, and as it does, we look to expand our offer in all subjects at Key Stage 5.

Prospective candidates are welcome to visit the school. For further details please email
recruitment@carterton.oxon.sch.uk.  Application forms must be completed on MyNewTerm.
