TEACHER OF ENGLISH - 2 Posts
Main / Upper Pay Ranges £31,650 to £49,084

Permanent,
Part Time - hours flexible depending on candidate from 0.5FTE to 0.8FTE

Required From 1 September 2025

Small enough to care, big enough to make a positive impact

As a 13-18 school in south east Northumberland with good standards of teaching and behaviour and a strong commitment to improvement, we believe passionately that every student should be enabled to succeed in all aspects of school life. Building on our ‘Good’ rating by Ofsted, we continue to strive for further improvements. Our student numbers are increasing so we are looking to add to our team of teachers.

We require two enthusiastic English practitioners, we require a 1.5FTE, but are flexible on how this would be split depending on the candidates, it could be one full time and one 0.5FTE part time or split to a 0.8FTE and 0.7FTE. You will focus on delivery throughout Years 9-13 and make a positive contribution to results at both GCSE English Language and English Literature, you must also be able to teach A Level English Language. You will have a strong sense of purpose and drive to improve student attainment and progress.

This post would be suitable for an ECT or someone wishing to gain further experience.  This full time role will be based across the federation, working at Astley Community High School and Whytrig Middle School, which share the same site.

At Astley Community High School you will join the English faculty, a highly focused team of six teachers. The English Faculty is a highly motivated team who work collaboratively and enthusiastically and specialise in both English Language and Literature.  During the final year of Key Stage 3, we begin to prepare our students for GCSE examinations by introducing examination style texts and skills as well as promoting wider, supportive reading.  In Key Stage 4, we study AQA English Language and Literature. In the Sixth Form we study AQA English Literature Specification B with a focus on Aspects of Tragedy and Elements of Crime Writing.  We now also study A Level English Language (Pearson Edexcel) which we started in September 2024.

As a relatively small school at Astley Community High School  there is a real sense of community. Staff are able to fully get to know the students in both an academic and pastoral sense. Behaviour across the schools is good with the vast majority of students putting into practice our behaviour expectations of being ready, respectful and safe on a daily basis. Our students across the Year groups into the Sixth Form have a focus on wanting to learn - this helps to foster an attitude of wanting to achieve the best they can.

Visits to the school are also warmly welcomed and encouraged. Please contact Richard Goodman, Head of School ACHS on 0191 2371505 or email vacancies@svf.org.uk to make an appointment.

It is expected that interviews will take place on Tuesday 6th May
Please note that we do not accept CVs.

We are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people. It is essential that all staff and volunteers share this commitment. An enhanced criminal records check from the Disclosure and Barring Service is required for all posts.

Please specify the FTE you are looking for on your application.
