With an excellent degree in a directly relevant subject, the successful candidate should be accustomed to, or capable of, guiding students of all abilities.
Food Preparation and Nutrition is part of the Science and Technology Faculty which has 17 members of staff. All Heads of Department report to the Faculty Leader and Food Preparation and Nutrition is taught across Key Stages 3 and 4. A dedicated food technician works alongside the Head of Department in the subject.
The AQA specification is taught at Key Stage 4.
The successful candidate for this role will use their imagination, commitment and ambition to challenge our students to enjoy Food Preparation and Nutrition. They will also possess the insight to convey its intricacies in an engaging and adventurous way. Responding to the needs of the individual student is a vital aspect of a teacher’s role at Ashford School, whether this is during one-to-one booster sessions or when running competitions.
The Head of Food and Nutrition will be expected to build on the department’s successful, engaging approach to teaching and learning and be passionate about curriculum design. In addition, they must be able to articulate what academic rigour looks like within the subject and show a strong understanding of the importance of data tracking and digital pedagogy.
The Head of Food and Nutrition role is part-time with approximately a 0.6 timetable, or slightly higher.
Teachers at Ashford enjoy a welcoming, comfortable and well-resourced environment and are provided with assistance from a range of support staff. All teaching rooms are equipped with permanent internet access and interactive whiteboards. The Head of Food Preparation and Nutrition has sole use of an office area attached to their classroom.
All teachers act as Form Tutors and are expected to contribute to the co-curricular life of the School. Accommodation may be available in return for boarding duties.
Salary by negotiation and dependent on skills, attributes and qualifications of the successful candidate.
